Fortune Live Professional Theatre

Adding to the overwhelming cultural milieu that is central Dunedin, this iconic theatre claims to be the world’s most southern and boasts a colourful production history dating from 1974.

Housed in the Trinity Methodist Church, which attracts a ‘B’ classification from the New Zealand Historic Places Trust, the theatre building itself dates right back to 1870 and was built by the eminent Scotsman R. A. Lawson who also designed Dunedin’s other magnificent churches Knox Church (1860) and First Church (1848).

Dunedin’s only professional theatre, its season runs from February through to December and its repertoire is limitless, staging everything from Shakespeare to playwrights of New Zealand and International unknowns. Education programs are also run by the Fortune Theatre Company and provide a chance for incredible acting/drama skills to be developed.

Experiences are thoroughly enjoyable at the Fortune theatre - the resonance of a building steeped in history and in productions in the hands of such a fantastic acting company your inner thespian is bound to be invoked.

Online booking facilities exist as well as by telephone or at the box office. Group discounts and private hire arrangements are well catered for.
